FosterLog Privacy Policy.

This privacy policy applies specifically to the FosterLog app.

FosterLog is designed to be a private, local-first record-keeping app for foster carers. The app allows adult users to record care-related information on their own device, including daily logs, incidents, school notes, health notes, contact notes, behaviour records, reports and evidence.

This Privacy Policy explains how ORAV Forge Ltd handles information in relation to the Foster Log app listed on Google Play and the FosterLog app shown inside the app.

1. Who we are

In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” means ORAV Forge Ltd.

2. What FosterLog is for

FosterLog is a record-keeping app intended for adult foster carers and similar adult care record users.

The app may be used to record sensitive information about children, placements, daily care, incidents, behaviour, health, school, contact arrangements, reports and supporting evidence.

FosterLog is not intended for use directly by children. It is not a government app, local authority app, fostering agency app, medical app, legal service or financial product. Users remain responsible for deciding what information they enter and how they use, export or share that information.

3. Data users may enter into FosterLog

Users may choose to enter information such as:

  • child names or profile details;
  • placement-related notes;
  • daily logs;
  • incident records;
  • behaviour notes;
  • school and education notes;
  • health-related notes;
  • contact notes;
  • achievements and observations;
  • report content;
  • evidence and supporting notes.

This information may include personal data and sensitive care-related information, including information about children.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not require users to enter any specific child record or care record. The user controls what they choose to record.

4. Local storage on the user’s device

FosterLog is local-first and offline-first.

In version 1, FosterLog does not use a cloud account system and does not provide cloud sync. User-entered care records are stored locally on the user’s device.

The app uses an encrypted local database using SQLite/SQLCipher. This is intended to protect the app database stored on the device.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not have access to the user’s local FosterLog database. We do not view, collect, upload or remotely access user-entered care records.

5. Data collected by ORAV Forge Ltd

In version 1, FosterLog does not collect user-entered care records for ORAV Forge Ltd.

In version 1, FosterLog does not include advertising and does not use advertising tracking.

In version 1, FosterLog does not intend to use analytics tracking.

In version 1, FosterLog does not create user accounts and does not provide ORAV Forge Ltd with access to user records.

The only personal information ORAV Forge Ltd may receive directly is information a user voluntarily sends to us, for example by emailing support@oravforge.co.uk . If a user contacts support, we may receive their email address, name if provided, and any information they choose to include in the message.

Users should avoid sending sensitive child records or care records to support unless it is necessary for the support request. If support information is sent to us voluntarily, we will use it only to respond to the support request, manage the issue, protect our legal position if needed, and maintain reasonable business records.

6. Google Play billing and premium unlocks

FosterLog may offer a one-time premium unlock through Google Play.

Payments are handled by Google Play. ORAV Forge Ltd does not receive the user’s payment card number, bank details or full payment method details.

The app may receive purchase status or entitlement information from Google Play so that premium features can be unlocked. Google Play’s own privacy terms apply to payment processing handled by Google.

7. Exports, reports, backups and sharing

FosterLog may allow users to create reports, PDF exports, backups or restore files.

Exports and backups are controlled by the user. A user may choose to save, share, email, upload, print or otherwise transfer exported files using Android, device storage, file picker tools, email apps, cloud storage apps or other third-party services.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not automatically receive exported reports, PDFs or backups.

Once a user exports or shares a file outside FosterLog, that file may no longer be protected by FosterLog’s encrypted local database. The user is responsible for where exported files are stored, who they are sent to, and whether the receiving service or person is suitable for sensitive care-related information.

Users should treat exported reports, PDF files and backup files as sensitive records.

8. Device features and permissions

FosterLog may use device features needed for normal app operation, such as local storage, file selection, export, import, backup, restore, Android sharing tools, and optional device security features.

Where available, FosterLog may offer optional app lock, PIN or biometric security. Biometric authentication is handled by the device operating system. FosterLog does not receive or store the user’s fingerprint, face scan or biometric template.

FosterLog does not require advertising identifiers for advertising purposes.

FosterLog does not need access to the user’s contacts, microphone, camera or location for its core record-keeping features.

9. How information is used inside the app

Information entered into FosterLog is used locally on the user’s device to provide app features, including:

  • creating and managing child profiles;
  • creating and viewing daily logs and care records;
  • searching records;
  • generating reports;
  • exporting reports;
  • creating backups;
  • restoring backups;
  • protecting access to the app where app lock is enabled.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not use user-entered care records for advertising, profiling, analytics, sale of data, marketing databases or third-party sharing.

10. Sharing with third parties

ORAV Forge Ltd does not sell user data.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not share user-entered care records with advertisers, analytics providers, local authorities, fostering agencies, social workers, schools, medical professionals or other third parties.

If a user chooses to export or share a report, PDF, backup or record, that is a user-controlled action. The user is responsible for checking that the recipient and method of sharing are appropriate.

If a user contacts ORAV Forge Ltd for support, we may use normal business tools such as email hosting or website hosting providers to receive and respond to the message. Those providers process information only as needed to provide their services.

We may disclose information if legally required to do so, for example to comply with a valid legal obligation.

11. Security

FosterLog is designed with privacy and security in mind.

Security measures may include:

  • encrypted local database storage using SQLite/SQLCipher;
  • optional app lock, PIN or biometric access where enabled;
  • local-first design;
  • no cloud sync in version 1;
  • no advertising tracking;
  • user-controlled exports and backups.

No app, device or security measure can guarantee complete protection. Users should keep their device secure, use a strong device passcode, keep Android updated, and take care when exporting or sharing sensitive records.

Exported files, including PDFs, may be easier to copy or share than data kept inside the encrypted app database. Users should store exported files carefully.

12. Retention and deletion

User-entered FosterLog records remain on the user’s device unless the user deletes them, removes the app, clears app data, restores a different backup, or deletes exported files.

ORAV Forge Ltd cannot remotely delete records stored only on a user’s device because we do not have access to them.

Users can delete local records within the app where deletion features are provided. Users can also remove app data through Android device settings or uninstall the app. Uninstalling the app or clearing app data may permanently remove local FosterLog records from that device unless the user has created and kept a separate backup.

Exported reports, PDFs and backup files must be deleted separately from wherever the user saved or shared them.

Support emails sent to ORAV Forge Ltd may be retained for as long as needed to deal with the support request, maintain reasonable business records, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or protect our legitimate interests. Users may contact us to request deletion of support emails, although we may need to keep limited information where legally or operationally necessary.

13. Children’s information

FosterLog is intended for adult users, not children.

Adult users may choose to enter information about children as part of their fostering or care record keeping. The adult user is responsible for ensuring they have the right, authority or appropriate reason to record, store, export or share that information.

Users should follow any requirements from their fostering agency, local authority, supervising social worker, school, legal adviser or relevant professional body when recording or sharing care-related information.

14. No sale of data

ORAV Forge Ltd does not sell FosterLog user data.

ORAV Forge Ltd does not sell user-entered child records, care notes, reports, backups or support emails.

15. No advertising

FosterLog does not show third-party adverts in version 1.

FosterLog does not use user-entered records for advertising.

If this changes in a future version, this Privacy Policy and the Google Play Data safety information will be updated before the change is released.

16. No analytics in version 1

FosterLog does not intend to use analytics tracking in version 1.

If analytics, crash reporting or similar diagnostic tools are added in a future version, this Privacy Policy and the Google Play Data safety information will be updated to explain what is collected, why it is collected, and how it is handled.

17. No cloud sync in version 1

FosterLog does not provide cloud sync in version 1.

If cloud backup, cloud sync, multi-device access or online accounts are added in a future version, this Privacy Policy and the Google Play Data safety information will be updated before those features are released.

18. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when FosterLog changes, when legal requirements change, or when Google Play requirements change.

The latest version will be published on this page. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page will show when the policy was last changed.

If we add features that materially change how data is collected, used, stored or shared, we will update this policy and the relevant Google Play Data safety information.
